Advancing Tobacco-Free Goals for the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year
September 18, 2024
As we embark on the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the Tobacco-Free Partnership of Gilchrist County (TFP) is energized and optimistic about the ambitious goals set for our community. Central to our mission is the pursuit of a local tobacco-free ordinance that would make all county-owned properties and parks tobacco-free. This initiative reflects our commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles and ensuring a healthier environment for all Gilchrist County residents.
Parks and recreational areas are vital components of a community's well-being, offering spaces for outdoor activities, sports, and leisure. They play a crucial role in encouraging physical activity and fostering a sense of community. By implementing a tobacco-free policy in these spaces, we aim to enhance the health benefits they provide. Eliminating tobacco use in these areas will not only protect visitors from the dangers of secondhand smoke but will also reinforce the message that our community prioritizes health and wellness. A tobacco-free ordinance sends a powerful message to the residents of Gilchrist County. It demonstrates a unified stance by our community and its leaders against tobacco use, particularly among our youth. By setting a clear example, we hope to influence positive behavior changes and underscore the importance of maintaining a tobacco-free lifestyle. This policy would serve as a visible and impactful way to support and promote healthy choices, contributing to the overall well-being of our community members, especially our children. |
In addition to advocating for this crucial policy, the Gilchrist TFP is eager to collaborate with key community organizations and support groups to further our mission. We are excited to work alongside the Gilchrist County Drug Coalition, the Health Department, Suwannee River AHEC, and other local partners. These collaborations are essential as we strive to provide comprehensive support and resources to our county residents. Together, we can leverage our combined expertise and reach to address the challenges associated with tobacco use and to promote a healthier environment for all.
Community engagement is at the heart of our strategy. This year, the TFP plans to be actively involved in several local events, including the Fall Festival, Christmas on the Corner, and high school events such as homecoming and prom. These events provide valuable opportunities for us to connect with residents, raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use, and encourage participation in our tobacco-free initiatives. By being present at these gatherings, we aim to foster a sense of community involvement and support for our cause.
Our hope is to continue growing our network of supporters and advocates. With the backing of our community partners and the collaboration of local decision-makers, we are optimistic about the progress we can make. By working together, we can drive meaningful change and create a healthier, tobacco-free future for Gilchrist County.
As we move forward into the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the Tobacco Free Partnership of Gilchrist remains dedicated to our mission of promoting tobacco-free lifestyles and enhancing community health. We look forward to the positive impact of our efforts and the continued support of our community in achieving these vital goals.
